DIGITALISM

Digitalism is a production duo from Germany. If you haven't heard of them, think indie/rock vs. Daft Punk. Their music is amazing like this:
Digitalism - Magnets
and if you have heard their first album "Idealism", here's some remixes by them:
Test Icicles - What's Your Damage (Digitalism Remix)
The Presets- Down Down Down (Digitalism Remix)
Daft Punk - Technologic (Digitalism Remix)

XENO ARKAEOLOGY

PHEW! 7 months of work have come down to this 15.5 minutes of music. I present to you:
RK9 - XENO ARKAEOLOGY
Xenoarchaeology - a hypothetical form of archaeology concerned with the physical remains of past (but not necessarily extinct) alien cultures.
This new EP started out as a project sampling Final Fantasy (I'm a huge nerd..) and ended up becoming a hypnotizing trip through space. It features NIMROD a.k.a Dean or Daniel Abruna (who also did the kick-ass cover art!) on the last track "Siren". Check it out, and tell a friend!
MUCH LOVE!
PS: I wanted to thank Danny and Zach for listening to these songs 10,000 times and not giving me shit, i love you guys! and Raul, Dalton, Niko and Mike Bunnyfuzz for giving me the feedback that made this project sound like it does. Last but not least my boy Dean/NIMROD for the help and the dope cover art!

CHASE & STATUS

In a just world, everyone would already know the name Chase & Status. Sadly, this is not so. They're the London based drum + bass / dubstep duo that made that one dubstep track that I wouldn't hesitate to call the dubstep theme song:
and if you only listen to the radio.. first off, shame on you. second, you still know Chase & Status because they produced and CO-WROTE (which probably means they just wrote it) Rihanna's latest album. That means "I'm so hard" and all that shit. Nothing bothers me more in the industry than the lack of representation for producers. "I'm so hard" would suck a fat dick without Chase & Status on the DAWs!
They JUST released a new track too, and it is super fucking awesome, listen or you fail:
Chase & Status Ft. Dizzee Rascal - Heavy
..and some other general dopeness
Prodigy - Invaders Must Die (Chase & Status Remix)
Follow them to find out about tracks and shows! SHOW LOVE!

EXCAVATING ELECTRO

Ok, I'm not exploring anything really new right now, instead I'm doing catchup on artists I haven't fully excavated. Here's some random songs by artists who are awesome. Dope shit I never heard before that I stumbled upon in my mediafire journeys....
Nighty Max was a musical gift from my friend Bianca, I think it's awesome. Clean and solid tracks, this one is on point.
Nighty Max - Iglou
LAZRtag is bomb, I've been jamming since my LA Riots / Boys Noize beginnings circa 2007
The Disco Villains - We Just Came To Get The Party Started (LAZRtag Remix)
Steed Lord - Royal Ruffian (LAZRtag Remix)
...speaking of LA Riots, THEY'RE AT VAGABOND THIS FRIDAY....CLICK!
N.A.S.A . - N.A.S.A. Music (LA Riots Remix) ...if you snooze, you LOSE

GREEN VELVET

I figure with the Green Velvet Show @ Grand Central coming up, everyone should know a little more about him.
....Ok. Green Velvet is old school. 1991 oldschool. He had a lot of oldschool hits and now he's a born again christian because he did a lot of mushrooms and stuff. Being a famous DJ in the early 90's though I'd be surprised if mushrooms were all he was up to. He's been putting out a lot of music for the past couple of years again and all I hear is solid beats, definitely on point.
It's tight work, and club worthy too. check it out:
Green Velvet - Turn It Up (Ft. Santiago & Bushido)
Green Velvet - Everybody Wants (Ft. Kid Sister)
Green Velvet - Shake and Pop (Ft. Kid Sister)(Steve Aoki Remix)
...whatup with the Kid Sister collabos???
By the way... a guy like this who has been DJing/following house from the early 90's is sure to put on a killer set. Not a show to be missed. It's this friday (May 22nd) and its FREE before 12 if you RSVP aqui:

MODESELEKTOR
I saw Modeselektor June 1st 2008, just before Studio A closed. The show was KILLER. These German jerks sprayed the crowd with champagne and poured shots of vodka for everyone. They were more fun than most of these big time artists and (as you can see in the pic) they did TONS of live remixing, great stuff. Also... I swear to god James Mercer (singer of The Shins) was vibin' in the VIP at this show.I'll cut to the chase. Fuck a genre, this is some crazy stuff. The band themselves said "Happy metal, hard rap, country-ambient, Russian crunk. We don’t like it if people tag us as being a certain style or school or scene or whatever. We don’t really care about all that." YEAH!
Here's 2 tracks off their 2005 album "Hello Mom!"
Modeselektor - Hasir
Modeselektor - Dancing Box (feat. TTC)
...this one has a french rapper on it. party track.
Here's some stuff you could bump in the club or something. Get crunk.
Modeselektor - Black Block
Boys Noize - Jeffer (Modeselektor Remix)
Modeselektor - Cash
Recently, they teamed up with Apparat as Moderat. The sound is much more chill. I don't love it as much but you MUST check out the videos that accompany some of their tracks. Beautiful.
much love.

SOULWAXXX

what up? this is a really fun mix by 2manydjs (AKA Soulwax) that reminds me of the days of getting beyond loose at the club. My dancing days are far too few ! Anyways, heat up yo summer with this 48-minutes of greatness.
Soulwax - Part of NYE Never Dies
..and if you are unfamiliar with Soulwax, HERE (youtube video) is proof of their greatness. It's an interview with the guys themselves and a peek at their AWESOME studio set-up and live performances.

CRYSTAL CASTLES

Yo! It's been a while, but I should be posting at a minimum of once a week now.
I've just been listening to the brand new Crystal Castles tracks that have been circulating. The new tracks come off the "Celestica EP" featuring tracks to appear on their next album in July. Because they're freakin' jerks they named it the same name as their first album.. "Crystal Castles". It's familiar and yet there's a sense that they are becoming more comfortable with their unique style. There's a lot more reverb on these tracks, it's less choppy and grity and more smooth and melodic. I've loved Crystal Castles since the day I heard them, and i know you all love them too so.. no more words, here's the single:
Crystal Castles - Celestica
and I felt Crystal Castles' remixes never received the hype they deserved, it's really just Ethan Kath (the production half of Crystal Castles) but he does tight work:
Goodbooks - Leni (Crystal Castles Remix)
Liars - It fit when I was kid (Crystal Castles Remix)

BROKEN BELLS

If you're anything like me, you should be already excited when you hear Dangermouse. No? What about James Mercer (vocalist of The Shins)? Now we're talkin'. They call themselves Broken Bells and they have completed an excellent album. It will be officially released March 9th, but is streaming on NPR for the entire week beforehand (that leaves you 5 days to listen) click HERE.
I've always been a fan of James Mercer but what makes Broken Bells so much more appealing is that it isn't glittery or bubbly, which translated to corniness by the time The Shins reached "Wincing the Night Away". None of that with Broken Bells. Straight indie, more "Chutes Too Narrow" but 10x beter with Dangermouse on prodo. Organs, flutes, weird synths and horns abound. I leave you with my personal favorite "Sailing to Nowhere":
Broken Bells - Sailing to Nowhere
If you like the track, you can pre-order their new album on the official webpage. HERE
or get at them on iTunes March 9th! (thats tuesday)
...follow them @broken_bells

LOVE MY CITY
So, many are still unfamiliar with the Square Biz family. Allow me to introduce RCubed and Black Bobby:
Black Bobby is Larry Harris Jr, a DC raised and Miami based rapper. Having graduated Harvard, headed a non-profit organization and done work on the Obama campaign, he brings an unusual and fresh style to the scene. For those tired of gimmicky facades and cliche rhymes, this is a breath of fresh air. Download his entire mixtape, "Phat Kid Tendencies", free! DOWNLOAD
RCubed is Raul Cubinas. This 17-year-old producer should have Kanye shakin' in his designer boots. On this track he brings heavy bass and beautifully-structured piano reminiscent of "Changes". Check out "Love My City" by Black Bobby and RCubed!

OFFICIOUS
This is RKNINE, my new and officious seeing-eye-blog.
If you don't know me, people call me Meek. I've been producing electronic music for 2 years now under the name RK9 (thus RKNINE), always doing my best to keep the soul in it. I DJ alongside FlyBoi and DJ D-Up at Square Biz Sundays @ the WhiteRoom and work with Square Biz Entertainment. I follow the dubstep, electro and underground hip-hop scene and my favorite past time is telling people about dope music.. so I'll do that to my best.
Much Love, Meek
